How Obamacare Evolved...

In June of 2009, I had a letter published in our local newspaper's opinion column. In it I vigorously complained about the proposed cost of what has now been tabbed “Obamacare.” It was only a proposal then; today it is a joke. The following is a portion of that letter: “President Obama is currently pushing for an omnibus health care reform package that originally was to top out at $1 trillion ($1,000,000,000,000.00) over ten years. The Congressional Budget Office(CBO)took a closer look and came up with $1.6 trillion. Today, the revised figure is upwards of $3 trillion IF they intend to cover every American, or it will cost nothing at all (scoff) if you believe Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. This astronomical amount of debt added to our grandchildren’s increasing debt(Obama says we’re broke) might provide Americans with a questionable health care system on a par with UK and Canada. Or not. Why is this legislation being considered? To provide access or coverage for the unverified millions of Americans who for a multitude of reasons, some personal, don’t have and don’t want health insurance coverage, or is it another governmental power grab?” In 2009, the plan was advertised as necessary in order to provide insurance coverage for 30 million uninsured Americans. Last month it was reported that 30 million Americans would still not be covered. That begs an answer to the question; What was the point? In 2009 I wrote often and long in opposition to Obamacare; I suggested we were being duped and I caught a ton of flack for that remark from loyal Obama supporters. Well, look at the results now that it is the law of the land. If you can honestly claim we weren’t duped, then you’re not one of those now saying, “I was for Obamacare until I had to pay for it.” jaq~
